West Grey Police and cohorts 'Freezin' for a Reason'

West Grey Police officers take the plunge

BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — West Grey Police Services (WGPS) personnel were Freezin' for a Reason between 1-2 pm last Saturday, February 17. Many divers took the challenge to dip themselves in the frigid pool set up outside the police station in Durham, during one of the colder days we've experienced this winter.

The annual frosty plunge is done in support of Special Olympics Ontario. "We have plungers joining us from across the globe this year," said Constable Allison Iles. "We're so excited!"

WGPS were joined by Durham Firefighters Association, Ontario Provincial Police - West Region, Owen Sound Police Service and Georgian College Police Foundations to chill for a great cause.

The WGPS fundraising goal was surpassed, and all funds assist local Special Olympics Athletes heading to Calgary for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games February 27 - March 2.

The 2024 event was a highlight of FrazzleFest activities on the Family Day weekend.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
