The West Grey Library’s For the Love of Reading: a day celebrating stories, books and authors of Ontario, at the Durham Town Hall on Saturday, October 5, is attracting in a wonderfully diverse talent pool.
There will be two featured author visits, with Robert Rotenberg, a Toronto-based lawyer who writes best-selling legal thrillers, the Greene and Kennicott series; and Thanh Campbell, author of Orphan32 about the journey after his dramatic airlift as a toddler out of Saigon in 1975.
The Library will also host a panel of local authors, who will explore the topic The Writer As Reader. Barbara MacLean, author of memoirs Lambs-quarters and Shepherd’s Sight; Alanna Rusnak, author/publisher-in-residence at the Library and author of both poetry and novels; and J.K. Gravier, the author of Blood Machines, a vampire/government conspiracy thriller, are among the panellists already confirmed.
Local authors will have the opportunity to participate in the event’s local author book sale and to sign up for the author spotlight. There, they’ll have 10 minutes to raise awareness of their books – could be by readings or Q&A, or juggling, sharing recipes or anything else they believe is illustrative of their book and the writing process! There are a limited number of spaces still available for the sale and spotlight.
After so much food for the brain, the evening’s Literary Fare dinner offers food for the rest of you. Grazing in Grey caters.
The book sale and spotlight portions are free; all others have a separate admission charge, so visitors can take part in one or two events, or get an all-access wristband and enjoy everything!
