Oji-cree Metis drum

In the next three weeks, West Grey offers activities to celebrate family members, from workshops to fundraisers!

First, on Saturday, April 26, starting at 10:30 am, a lovely celebration of families, brought to us from our elder-in-residence Diane. An Oji-cree Metis and drum carrier, Diane offers her perspectives on the way Indigenous peoples raise and protect the most vulnerable members of the community. Participants will create their own dreamcatcher (bring an item to include in your creation)! Material fee is $15 and pre-registration is a must: spaces are very limited. Sign up on Eventbrite, drop in to Durham Branch at 453 Garafraxa St S in Durham, call 519-369-2107 or email the Library at adultprograms@westgreylibrary.com.

Then, the Library’s Board of Directors hosts an online auction, with items perfect for Mother’s Day! Everything from gorgeous stoneware to jewellery, books, bags, foods and even a get-away vacation! The auction begins on Monday, April 28 (12 noon) and runs until Friday, May 9 (5 pm) The highest bidders will be able to pay and pick up their items starting on Saturday, May 10 from 10 am to 2 pm. At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
