West Grey Police issued the following report:
During the week of May 13 - 20, 2022, the West Grey Police Service responded to 96 total calls for service.
On May 15, 2022, West Grey Police were called to an address in Durham after receiving a report of a person in distress with a firearm. As police arrived a shot was fired by the person in distress. Police and family were able to subdue the male and secure the weapon without causing further harm to the individual. An 81-year-old male from West Grey was arrested and has been charged with:
The male was transported to hospital for assessment and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Walkerton at a later date.
On May 15, 2022, West Grey Police were called to multiple addresses in the Elgin Street/ Saddler Street area of Durham after a rash of overnight Break, Enter and Thefts. Officers from Uniformed and Criminal Investigations Branch (C.I.B.) along with help from the public identified the suspect. An 18-year-old male from West Grey later turned himself in and was arrested and has been charged with:
The accused was processed and later released on an Undertaking with Conditions. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Walkerton at a later date.
Investigation is ongoing as police are seeking a second suspect involved in these incidents.
