BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — Like a broken record, we seem to be stuck on one story above all others. Can you guess what it is?
For the third year in a row, the COVID-19 pandemic has dominated the news. While we hate to keep bringing it up, we'd be remiss in our duties as responsible journalists if we just pushed it under the carpet. But let's make a pact to not make the COVID-19 pandemic the top story of any more end-of-year-lists!
Toward that end, we give you links to our complete 'Reader's Digest' summary of this horrible virus, starting in 2020 with how we went from normalcy to hoarding toilet paper to the catastrophe that unfolded in long term care homes to the banging of pots and pans at 7 pm every night to thank health care workers. Remember all that?
From government stay-at-home orders to mass-immunization hubs to the first case of the Omicron Variant, 2021 was COVID-19 déjà-vu.
Just like Groundhog Day, we woke up again in 2022 just where we had started. Cases of COVID-19 were peaking at higher levels than even before. Protesters occupied our capital city. We stopped reporting cases in March and expanded eligibility for fourth vaccine doses in April.
You can still track active respiratory outbreaks and view COVID-19 case data in Grey-Bruce. Here are these links in 2022:

2022 was a transitional year, in many ways — a comeback year for events and social gatherings. 2022 saw an end to many mandates and protocols, too. We haven't felt this normal in years! Let's hope that it's the start of something that lasts.
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
