Students looking to operate a business this summer can now apply to the 2025 Summer Company program. Summer Company offers students 15-29 years of age an opportunity to start and manage their own business. Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to $3,000 and access to training and mentorship from local business leaders.
Applications to the program will be accepted until May 31, 2025. Students can apply online through the Business Enterprise Centre webpage.
“Grey County’s local economy thrives on small businesses. The Summer Company program is a terrific opportunity for students to get a feel for what it’s like to be their own boss and run a business,” said Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs. “Every year we see new and exciting businesses come through the Summer Company program. As a former high school teacher, I know there are many students with entrepreneurial spirit, and this program offers an opportunity to explore their potential.”
Applicants are to submit a business plan as part of their application to the program. Anyone with questions about the business plan or application process can contact the Business Enterprise Centre at bec@grey.ca or by calling 519-371-3232.
“Starting a business may sound overwhelming, but the Business Enterprise Centre is here to help students every step of the way,” said Courtney Miller, manager of the Grey County Business Enterprise Centre. “Our staff are here to help develop a business plan and give support as they run their business throughout the summer.”
To be eligible, students must be between 15-29 years of age and plan to return to school in the fall. Students must not be already running a business, working at another job, or going to school for more than 12 hours per week during the program. Full details can be found on the Grey County website at www.grey.ca/bec.
Program space is limited. Applicants may be asked to participate in an interview as part of the application process.
The Summer Company program is funded by the Province of Ontario and delivered by the Grey County Business Enterprise Centre. Students keep all profits made through their business.
