BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — Voting in the Grey County Reads contest ended on October 4. Over 2,600 votes were cast during the summer-long competition and winners were chosen this past weekend.

The winner is Orphan 32 by Thanh Campbell, advocated by Monica Singh Soares for the community of Southgate. The Southgate Ruth Hargrave Memorial Public Library wins $200 worth of books courtesy of Speaking Volumes Books and Audio in Markdale. Three other winners were chosen randomly from all of those who voted in our contest. Linda Gagliardi of Brampton, Liz Muriel of New Lowell and Lara Widdifield of Owen Sound have also won gift certificates from Speaking Volumes, the main sponsor of the contest.

"Thanks to our incredible community's support, the Southgate Ruth Hargrave Memorial Public Library will receive $200 worth of books from Speaking Volumes Books and Audio in Markdale! This win is not just about a book — it's about the power of storytelling, community spirit, and the love of reading that unites us all," said Monic Soares upon learning of her successful advocation of Campbell's remarkable story of life, love, family and self-discovery.

Visit the Grey County Reads website and read Monica Singh Soares' winning report, as well as the other well-written submissions for the other four books in the contest.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
