BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — A crowd of supporters gathered outside the store on Friday October 18 for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Volunteers worked everyday in September to get the store ready for the opening, according to Verna Miller, Head Convener of Pennywise.
Pennywise is operated by the Hospital Auxiliary and all the money raised goes to support the hospital in Markdale.
Over a million dollars has been raised for the hospital by the Pennywise Thrift Shoppe since 1953.
Pennywise was formerly located beside the old hospital in downtown Markdale. It was forced to close since the Canada Day Long weekend due to a break-in at the former hospital building and water was no longer available.
Coffee and donuts were served after the ribbon cutting.
