OPP announces new partnership to kick off Fraud Prevention Month

OPP logo on white background

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), is pleased to announce a partnership aimed at reducing fraudulent and criminal activity in all our communities around the province of Ontario.

Every year, thousands of unsuspecting Canadians are victims of fraud, and to help raise awareness of this concerning practice, the OPP has partnered with the Retail Council of Canada and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center (CAFC) on an in-store and social media campaign developed to draw attention to the most commonly used gift card fraud tactics. Retailers and police services of all sizes across Canada will be encouraged to share this message as part of Fraud Prevention Month that begins on March 1, 2022.

Join us for a discussion on how we can all prevent gift card fraud and what we can all do to raise awareness amongst family, friends and community residents on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.

The session will be broadcast live over the OPP social media channels:

Twitter - @OPP_WR

Facebook - OPP West

You will have an opportunity to send questions to our panel during the live discussion.

  • Derek Rogers, West Region OPP Media Relations Coordinator,
  • Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk, Community Service Coordinator,
  • Detective Sergeant John Armit - Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre,
  • Rui Rodrigues, Retail Council of Canada - Executive Advisor, Loss Prevention and Risk Management.

The presentation is being recorded and will also be available to view on OPP social media channels.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
