Local Markdale retailer takes top award at inaugural Ontario Made Awards ceremony

BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — On February 24, winners of the Ontario Made Awards were announced and local retailer The Market Shoppe took top prize among Ontario retailers focused on Ontario Made and 'support local' initiatives. Consumers made their voices heard during a five week voting period ending in January. Ultimately, winners were chosen by a panel of industry experts.

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME), a non-profit business association representing 2,500 leading manufacturers from coast to coast, initiated the Ontario Made awards program last year as a way to celebrate Ontario manufacturers and retailers and their achievements. Last December, the organization announced nominees for the Inaugural Ontario Made Awards whose winners were made known just last week at the Ontario Made Virtual Awards Ceremony. The Market Shoppe beat out nine other businesses in their category to win the first Retailer Spotlight Award.

Awards were also handed out in the categories of manufacturing, merchandising and consumer awareness.

"To our suppliers, customers, staff, friends and family, this was made possible because of your support," said owner Tracy Nietvelt-Prentice upon hearing the news. "Together we are stronger through good times and hard times. You were there for us in the hardest time, now we celebrate together!"

The community has flooded The Market Shoppe social media pages with congratulations and accolades.
