OPP charge two individuals with manslaughter after deceased man located at a residence in Grey Highlands

On March 28, 2022, emergency services responded to a 9-1-1 call after 23-year-old Corey SUTHERLAND was located deceased in a residence at a West Back Line, Grey Highlands address.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grey Bruce Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service continued to investigate.

On May 22, 2024, police arrested and charged two individuals in connection with this incident.

Charged with the following offences is a 21-year-old of Toronto, Ontario:

  • Manslaughter contrary to Section 236 (b) of the Criminal Code,
  • Traffic in Schedule I substance - Fentanyl, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act,
  • Traffic in Schedule I Substance - Isotonitazene, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

Charged with the following offences is a 25-year-old of Toronto, Ontario:

  • Manslaughter contrary to Section 236 (b) of the Criminal Code,
  • Traffic in Schedule I substance - Fentanyl, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act,
  • Traffic in Schedule I Substance - Isotonitazene, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Control led Drugs and Substance Act.

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on May 30, 2024. Both accused have been held in custody.
