Letter to the Editor: A message to the PC candidate, "Show up!"

2025 Provincial Election Debate Stage with one candidate missing from podium

LETTER TO THE EDITOR — Our PC candidate has shown us how inaccessible the PC government is. He did not even have the decency to appear at the all candidate’s meeting on Health Care! Why is he avoiding us? Because he would have to answer for how his party is harming us.

The PC government has shown time and time again that they are the party of the moneyed class. They make deals that profit the rich (privatizing health care, privatizing public lands, subsidizing a spa on public land, changing Greenbelt availability to serve developers). These decisions give a handout to the rich and rich corporations, at the expense of hardworking Ontarians who need public health care, need public lands, and need protected farmland and green spaces.

Now, at the last moment before an early election, after a thinly veiled attempt at buying our votes with $200, Doug Ford is presenting the illusion that he will stand up to the bully south of the border. But Ford himself is a bully, and he will continue to take from us. He literally steals from the poor to give to the rich — he steals from all of us and our public institutions, to benefit private corporations. People will never come before profits in the conservative handbook. And Vickers has been instructed to avoid answering for this.

In contrast to being ignored by Vickers, Green Party candidate Joel Loughead has consistently shown that he is actively listening and will use his voice to advocate for rural vitality, public health care, and farmland protection. He has specifically reached out to ask doctors and nurses what is needed for rural health care beyond the public forum; Vickers is absent.

Joel shows up! Which is far more than we can say for the PC party, and their candidate here.

Sincerely,
