In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Grey Highlands Public Library hosted an Author Talks event in Flesherton featuring Jayne Pritchard. Pritchard, known for her role as news anchor for CTV News Barrie, shared her recent book “Breast Cancer – After the Diagnosis” and how she overcame setbacks along the way.
Jayne captivated the audience with the stories of her diagnosis, many surgeries, alternative and naturopathic treatments as well as nutrition methods she uses to maintain good health. A touching story that had the crowd in tears and laughter.
“Jayne’s story hit home for a lot of people and her advocacy work is critical. About 29,000 people in Canada were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and as educators, we can play an important role on providing information to the community about prioritizing breast health and health in general. The Library was so excited to support this initiative and to bring a familiar face to Grey Highlands to start this work”, said Jennifer Murley, Grey Highlands Public Library CEO.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and is an annual international health campaign to raise awareness about early detection and the impact of breast cancer. While there have been many advances and remarkable progress against breast cancer, 1 in 8 women in Canada are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Tickets for the event were by donation with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Canada. Over $400 was raised which reflects the community support in Grey Highlands. Copies of Jayne’s book are available through your local branch.
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
