The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver who crashed their vehicle into the ditch.

On March 2, 2024, at 1:27 am, the Grey Bruce OPP were patrolling Highway 10 in Chatsworth Township when they located a vehicle in the ditch. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

A 30-year-old of South Bruce Peninsula was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 21, 2024.

Road safety is a priority for the OPP and officers are trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and as Drug Recognition Experts (DRE), giving them the skills to identify a driver who is impaired by a drug. Officers can also use Approved Drug Screening Equipment to enforce zero tolerance sanctions with young, novice and commercial drivers. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
