BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — The nights were a little chilly and wet, yet unseasonably warm when the Hanley Institute gave another series of frightful performances this past weekend. Members of the Hanley Theatre Club dressed as zombies, ghouls and ghosts inhabiting the former St. John's Church on Spring Street in Flesherton on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 25-27. The group dispatched two shows each night. Admission was free with donations greatly appreciated.
All ages were bewitched and came away beguiled by the efforts of volunteers and the elaborate lighting, sound and staging of this year's Hanley House of Horrors. Many had returned after attending last year's Hanley Haunted Hike which took place in the outdoor abandoned Heritage Village behind Southeast Grey Support Services in Flesherton — another fun Hallowe'en spectacle put on by the Hanley players led by actor Michael Copeman.
"'Thank you' is not even close to how much I appreciate all (the volunteers) help to make this come together," said Jenny Hanley. "The kids were beyond excited and I couldn't be more proud of them."
Money raised at the event helps fund the services of the Hanley Institute. The Hanley Institute Instills empathetic and compassionate life skills within today's youth for a kinder tomorrow. The registered charity and community partner organization provides workshops, after-school activities and summer camps for local youth.
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
