The winner from the March 26 Division T contest next competes online at the District 86 Toastmasters Conference, April 18, 2021, against speakers across much of Ontario. That’s the final hurdle to competing in the World Championship's semi and final rounds during the annual Toastmasters International Convention, Aug. 23-28, 2021.
"Speaking contests are bedrock part of the personal growth members experience in Toastmasters International,” said Dave Weber, a member of High Noon Toastmasters in Cambridge. Weber is also director of Toastmasters District, 86 Division T, overseeing 16 clubs across Waterloo Region and Wellington, Grey and Bruce counties.
Toastmasters International members learn, practice and receive feedback about their public speaking and presentation skills during weekly club meetings. “At Toastmasters, we support members as they challenge themselves with speaking projects, building confidence to speak in front of audiences, both online and in-person,” Weber said. “Whether it’s delivering a multi-million-dollar business pitch at work or a toast at a family event, Toastmasters members learn communication skills for success.”
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colo., the organization's membership exceeds 357,000 in more than 16,600 clubs in 143 countries.
