The Collingwood Climate Action Team has announced the launch of their first cohort for the Green Economy Hub Pilot, which officially began on December 1, 2024. This cohort consists of a group of eight forward-thinking businesses representing four of the six municipalities within the South Georgian Bay region, all united in their commitment to sustainability.
These businesses will become members of Green Economy Canada, a not-for-profit charitable organization network, where they will receive guidance on measuring their carbon footprint, setting reduction targets, developing reduction strategies, and tracking their progress.
This pilot project is powered by a strong multi-sector partnership, bringing together expertise and resources from across the region. The exceptional team of partners includes:
Funding supporters include The Institute of Southern Georgian Bay, SGB Innovation Fund, The Town of Collingwood, and The Town of the Blue Mountains. Their contributions have been instrumental in making this project a reality.
The Green Economy Hub Pilot aims to engage and support businesses in reducing their environmental impact, fostering innovation, and advancing sustainability within the region. This project is just the beginning of a broader initiative we plan to grow through 2025; launching a second cohort of businesses and organizations in the spring of 2025.
The launch of this pilot is a significant milestone for our community, showcasing the power of collaboration and the potential of local businesses to lead the way in sustainable practices.

Together we can build a greener, more sustainable future for South Georgian Bay.
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
