The Grey Highlands Public Library has announced enhancements to community services. The recent addition of collaborative tools at the branches in Markdale and Flesherton marks a significant leap forward. “The library is here for the community, and we want to make sure we are investing in the advancement of technology within Grey Highlands,” says Eleni Hughes, CEO/Chief Librarian.

The Flesherton Branch and the Walter Harris Memorial Branch in Markdale have bright spacious meeting rooms that are now equipped with digital whiteboards and video conferencing. In 2023, the Grey Highlands Municipal Council and the Library Board approved the use of development charges to expand technology services provided by the library. These tools will benefit non-profit groups, businesses, and remote workers. “Virtual connectivity opens up possibilities beyond our town limits, facilitating creativity, knowledge exchange, and community engagement,” explains Jeff Rosenburg, Branch Manager/IT.

The creation of a makerspace, featuring a 3D printer, is currently in progress at the Walter Harris Memorial Branch, complemented by the availability of loanable iPads and laptops, making more technology accessible to all. "We want to ensure that technology is within everyone's reach," Rosenburg emphasized. Makerspaces are collaborative work spaces purposed for making, learning, exploring and sharing.

The Grey Highlands Public Library is dedicated to providing dynamic and inclusive spaces for learning and collaboration. The library invites the community to explore these new tech resources, fostering creativity and connectivity. At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
