Retired Eugenia resident wins over $157,000 in Lightning Lotto jackpot

Kevin Kirkpatrick

Kevin Kirkpatrick of Eugenia was struck by the LIGHTNING LOTTO jackpot on January 1, 2022. The top prize had grown to $157,306.60 before it was won!

Kevin, a 60-year-old retiree, said he is a regular lottery player, but only plays LIGHTNING LOTTO occasionally. “It was New Year’s Day when I decided to play LIGHTNING LOTTO when I stopped for gas,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I didn’t have much to say for a few minutes — I was shell-shocked!”

Kevin said receiving his cheque has been the realest moment so far. “I’m the happiest guy in the world right now! This is spectacular,” he smiled.

He has some great plans for his future. “More golfing, more fishing, more travelling,” he laughed. “I think my first stop will be British Columbia with family.”

OLG is booking in-person prize claim appointments at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. As there are limited appointments, we strongly encourage those witch claims between $1,000 and $49,999.90 to submit their claims online or mail them. Submitting claims online is fast, secure and enables OLG to process the claim in a timely manner. Customers with prizes over $50,000 are asked to call 1-800-387-0098 to discuss available prize claim options.

The winning ticket was purchased at Colpepper’s Limited on Collingwood Street in Flesherton.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
