Grey County long-term care homes celebrating Seniors’ Month

June is Seniors’ Month and Grey County is celebrating the contributions and achievements of seniors with several events and activities at the three County-owned long-term care homes, Lee Manor, Rockwood Terrace and Grey Gables.

Lee Manor

Lee Manor in Owen Sound is celebrating Seniors’ month by creating a collaborative art piece. Residents will stamp their fingerprint on the FamiLee Tree which will be proudly displayed in the home. Lee Manor is also hosting an Alzheimer’s Society Walk for Memories, a Grey Bruce Pride presentation, a dog show, a classic car show, a musical performance by the Owen Sound City Band and a Hi-Berry Farms Strawberry and Ice Cream Social.

Rockwood Terrace

Rockwood Terrace in Durham is celebrating with a resident barbeque lunch, a Father’s Day Breakfast, a strawberry social, a dog show, a visit from the intergenerational Grandpals program with the elementary school, and a Grey Bruce Pride presentation.

Grey Gables

Grey Gables kicked off the month by launching a mobile book program with the Markdale Library. Interested residents signed up for a new library card and can exchange books every three weeks. Library staff are also graciously assisting in setting up audio books and are providing book recommendations. In addition to the book program, Grey Gables is hosting a car show, a strawberry social, and a Grey Bruce Pride presentation.

In addition to the events and activities, Lee Manor, Rockwood Terrace and Grey Gables are each spotlighting several resident volunteers who help make each community feel like a home. Some ways resident volunteers help include participating on resident councils, leading activities such as painting or helping set up for games like bingo, assisting with gardening, helping in the tuck shops, a much more.

“Long-term care residents care about their communities and want to have opportunities to help their neighbours and contribute to the overall well-being of their home,” said Grey County Director of Long-Term Care and Seniors Services, Jennifer Cornell. “We have several residents who are involved in ways that are meaningful and rewarding. We’re grateful to each of them for being part of the Colour It team.”
