BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — Jennifer Frankum is a retired teacher, boasting a 29-year career at Saugeen District Secondary School. She is poetry editor of The Leaf, a twice-yearly journal presenting words from the traditional territory of the Saugeen Anishinaabek in poetry, short fiction, reviews, essays, author profiles and leaves from writers’ notebooks. She is a frequent contributor to area readings and other publications and has received several poetry prizes and award nominations of her works, recently releasing a new collection of poems entitled The Position of My Heart.

The Brucedale Press website describes her latest venture elegantly, "In lines of whimsy and heart, the writer offers fresh ways of expressing both universal minutiae and unexpected realizations. Tracing the richness of a love story that began with moving of furniture, she explores her roles in family and classrooms with poems ranging from exuberant to quiet and thought-provoking."

She is just one of approximately 10 local authors who will attend the annual Books and Authors Day at the Flesherton and District Farmers' Market this Saturday, June 20 — a traditional event tracing back to the early days of the market.

Children's author Carolyn J. Morris will also be an hand with her many charming stories for kids, illustrated by local artist Richard McNaughton, a former vendor at the Flesherton market. Carolyn writes stories that show respect for rural living and farm life and has gained a reputation for sharing her country roots with her baby chicks and ducklings at various speaking engagements.

Among the other book authors at Saturday's occasion, look for Kate Russell, Donna Mann, Suzanne Ray, Linda Sachs, Winston Uytenbogaart and Richard Yves Sitoski.

Books and Authors Day celebrates local writers and their original poetry and prose, proudly produced as close to Grey and Bruce Counties as possible. The market runs from 9 am to 1 pm every Saturday from May to October at the Flesherton Arena pavilion and parking lot. Local produce is coming into season and will also be available, as well as art, crafts, honey, syrup and fresh baking.
