LETTER TO THE EDITOR — In the March 14 newsletter, we appreciated John Butler’s piece highlighting the work and dedication of Grey Highlands’ councillor Nadia Dubyk. It was both eye-opening and encouraging. It’s wonderful that in these darkening times, there are people who are taking up the causes of necessary social justice and transformation.
Homelessness is a particularly fraught issue and, like addiction and others, should not be. We need to get behind people like Nadia and John who are willing to put themselves on the line.
It’s great to hear some of the great initiatives that are taking place in our communities, but much more funding is obviously required. I note that here in the Highlands, our property tax has increased by a whopping 9.1% but there seems to be no mention of any of this going to the kinds of essential services that Nadia and John advocate.

Grey Highlands
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
