Man charged with assault with a weapon in Southgate

On January 8, 2021 at 5:54 pm, officers from the Grey Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault occurrence at an apartment complex on Grey Road 109, in the Village of Holstein, in the Township of Southgate.

A resident was verbally threatened by another tenant, who brandished an electroshock weapon, (similar to a taser). There were no injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 51 year-old, from Southgate, ON, with the following offences:

• Assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) 
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC 
• Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) CCC 
• Failing to comply with a release order, section 145(5)(a) CCC

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 21, 2021.
