Asian Heritage Month celebrated

Group attending the Asian Heritage Month reading event

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for us to learn more about the diverse culture and history of Asian communities in Canada, as well as to acknowledge the many achievements and contributions of people of Asian origin who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the country we know and love. It was adopted by the Senate of Canada in 2001, designating May as Asian Heritage Month nationally.

The theme for this year's month was Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy. This theme celebrates the rich heritage and contributions of people of Asian origin in Canada while also looking forward to the future with optimism and hopefulness. As May winds down, we recognize some of the highlights of this year's celebration.

The Rise Up And Soar (RUAS) Community in Dundalk organized two events in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. On May 1, an assembly was held in collaboration with Highpoint Community School.

"RUAS Community are honoured to have facilitated his visit to Southgate and grateful for the unforgettable experience he provided to our community. We extend our appreciation to Suneet Kukreja at the YMCA Owen Sound Grey Bruce, the Ruth Hargrave Library, and all who contributed to the success of this event," said Monica Singh Soares.
